A Chinese New Year celebration organized by the Central Ontario Chinese Cultural Centre was held at the Waterloo Recreation Centre on Saturday, January 17, 2009. Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service were invited to participate.
Pictured here is Sergeant Perry Lee performing Iaido, the art of drawing the sword and part of a traditional martial arts form often presented during New Year celebrations. The Samurai sword is known as the Katana. Sgt. Lee is wearing the traditional uniform with black wide legged pants called Hakama.
The festivities also included Karate and Tai Chi demonstrations performed by members of the Waterloo Martial Arts Academy. The Waterloo Regional Police Service takes great pride in serving this diverse and dynamic community.
