Waterloo Regional Police urge road users to make safety their top priority with the following winter driving tips.
  • During extreme winter conditions, avoid driving if possible
  • If you must drive, leave plenty of time to reach your destination and advise family or friends of your intended route and expected arrival time
  • Increase the distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you
  • Communicate clearly using lights, signals, and horn as appropriate
  • Assume the road is slippery: reduce travel speed and start braking sooner
  • Be prepared for poor visibility from blowing snow and cross winds in open areas
  • Carry an emergency kit and cell phone to call for help
  • Reduce distractions and focus on the driving task
  • Buckle up, drive safe, drive sober
