Citizens Police Academy- Spring 2012

Course Date:  February 9, 2012 – April 26, 2012
Location:  Waterloo Regional Police Service, 200 Maple Grove Road, Cambridge
Time:  Every Thursday from 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Course Outline and Brief Overview:

•    The Waterloo Regional Police - “Who we are and how we came to be.”
•    Crime trends, Budget breakdowns.
•    Community projects and initiatives throughout the Region of Waterloo.
•    The Traffic Branch and their role and function in the community.
•    The Special Response Unit and their dynamic role to the Police Service and community.
•    Tour of Central Division, with a day in the life of Patrol Officer.
•    Use of force options and defensive tactics demonstration.
•    Criminal investigations, polygraph and drug enforcement.
•    Homicide investigation and the use of forensic investigation in policing.
•    The Communications Centre and the use of 9-1-1.
•    The Public Complaints process, and internal affairs investigation.
•    Strategic plan, and where we should be heading in the future.
•    Crown Attorney, Youth Court Judge and Defence Lawyer present the court system
•    Fraud Investigation

The above are only a few of the highlights of the Citizen Police Academy. The Academy is designed to be an interactive, fun-filled learning program.  

Registration is limited, so please return your registration form to any Waterloo Regional Police Service Division, at your earliest convenience.  Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.  Download application form.

*Course selection takes place approximately one month prior to class commencement.  You will only be notified if you are selected.  If you are not selected your application will be kept on file for future consideration.
