The Waterloo Regional Police Service is the 7th largest police service in the province of Ontario serving the more than 520,000 citizens of the Region of Waterloo. The Police Service employs 718 uniform members and 253 civilian members who are committed to making a difference in the many diverse and vibrant neighbourhoods of Waterloo Region as they fulfill their mission to improve the quality of life for all people.
In December 2007, Matt Torigian became the fifth Chief of Police for the Waterloo Regional Police Service. Chief Torigian is an active member on many local, provincial and national committees, and presently serves on the OACP Board of Directors as a Vice-President. Chief Torigian is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of Western Ontario, the FBI National Academy and presently enrolled in the FBI National Executive Institute.

Badge Ceremony for New Officers- Class 75
On Tuesday December 8, 2009, Chief Torigian presented 13 new officers with their police badges at a ceremony at St. Daniel School in Kitchener. The officers had just returned from 12 weeks of Basic Constable Training at the Ontario Police College and were now preparing to begin their assignments as patrol officers.
