Homicide Suspect Ager Hasan Arrested in Texas

Waterloo Region, Ontario – On Tuesday, July 11, 2017, officials with the United States Secret Service arrested Ager Hasan, 24, who is charged with second degree murder in connection to a Kitchener homicide.

On April 28, 2017, Melinda Vasilije, 22, was found deceased in her Country Hill Drive residence in Kitchener. The cause of her death was determined to be multiple stab wounds.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued for Hamilton resident Ager Hasan after it was determined he had fled to the United States. Ager Hasan and Melinda Vasilije were known to each other.

On July 11, 2017, Mr. Hasan was arrested in San Antonio, Texas, during a traffic stop, which was being conducted by the United States Secret Service in relation to an ongoing counterfeit currency investigation.

Waterloo Regional Police, along with our local Crown Attorney’s office and the Ministry of the Attorney General, are currently working with our U.S. law enforcement partners and the U.S. Department of Justice to return Mr. Hasan to Waterloo Region though the extradition process.

Waterloo Regional Police would like to thank the community, members of the media and our law enforcement partners, both in Canada and the United States, for their cooperation and support during this investigation.

In particular, we would like to thank the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Secret Service and Border Services for their collaboration and exchange of information during the search for Mr. Hasan.

Mr. Hasan is currently charged with one count of second degree murder and three counts of breach recognizance.
