Incident # 12-186110    Type : Robbery    
HOLBORN DR , KITCHENER
On Thursday, August 9, 2012, three disguised males brandishing weapons entered an apartment unit on Holborn Drive in Kitchener.

The males demanded money and an altercation occurred involving an occupant in the apartment. The suspects then fled the scene.

Upon arrival of emergency services, an adult male was transported to the hospital for treatment of puncture wounds. The injuries are believed to be non life-threatening.

The investigation is continuing and police believe this incident to have been a targeted act.

Incident # 12-185908    Type : Offensive Weapons    
QUEEN ST N, KITCHENER
On Thursday August 9, 2012 at 10:08 am, police responded to the area of Queen St. N and Goudies Lane downtown Kitchener, after receiving a call about a male with a gun.

On arrival, Police learned that a group of males from a local production company were filming a short film in the downtown area. A scene of the film involved an armed male dressed in black walking around.

Police were able to identify all parties involved and ensure no real weapons were being used and that no one was injured.
A supervisor of the film crew was issued a ticket under the City of Kitchener Nuisance Bylaw for the concern this situation created in a public space.

Incident # 12-186310    Type : Fire    
JAMIESON PKY, , CAMBRIDGE
On August 9, 2012 about 7:30 pm Cambridge Fire Department personnel and police attended at the Homewood Suites Hotel, 800 Jamieson Parkway, Cambridge for a fire reported in one of the rooms.

The hotel was being evacuated as a precaution at the time of fire services' arrival. The fire was determined to have started on a stove in one of the rooms and had remained confined due to a properly functioning sprinkler systems in the room.

Fire and smoke damage was limited to the kitchenette area of one room. Other rooms were damaged by water. No injuries were reported. There is no damage estimate available at present.

Incident # 12-186015    Type : Motor Vehicle Collision - Injuries    
LOWTHER STREET, CAMBRIDGE ON CANADA (AREA: WS
Thursday August 9th 2012 at approximately 12:24 PM a motor vehicle collision occurred at the intersection Lowther Street and Moore Street in the City of Cambridge.

A 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle being operated by a 32 yr old Cambridge male was travelling eastbound on Lowther Street.

A 66 yr old Cambridge female driving a 2006 Kia, was stopped at a stop sign at Moore and Lowther, and then proceeded through the intersection.

The motorcyclist attempted an evasive manoeuvre however struck the side of the Kia. He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. He remains in hospital at this time. The female driver was not injured.

The motorcycle was destroyed and there was minor damage to the Kia. The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.

As a result of further investigation, police determined that the unknown suspects were armed with knives, and objects appearing to be firearms.

There are no indications that any firearms were discharged during the robbery and police are working to determine if the objects carried by the suspects are real or replicas.

The victim, a 36 year old Kitchener male, remains in the hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. The investigation continues and police continue their appeal for any information.
