Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police in partnership with the City of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Waterloo are conducting the 11th annual Door Knocker Program in the areas surrounding the Universities.

Police Officers, Bylaw Officers, WLU and UW Campus Police and City of Waterloo Fire Department will be going door to door September 16, 2014 starting at 6PM to speak with residents and deliver flyers containing a welcome message to students and information about living in Waterloo.

For Immediate Release: September 10, 2014

Waterloo Region, ON – On the 11th of September 2014, at approximately 12:55 am, Waterloo Regional Police responded to an injured person call at a Kitchener residence.  

A 41 year old Kitchener woman was transported by ambulance to hospital where she continues to receive treatment for life threatening injuries.  

A 48 year old male was arrested at the residence by Central Patrol.  

The male has been charged with Attempted Murder.  He is being held for a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice.

For Immediate Release: September 5, 2014

Waterloo Region, ON – At approximately 9am on Friday September 5, 2014, emergency services responded to the University of Waterloo, 200 University Avenue, Waterloo after receiving a report that a pedestrian had been struck by lightning.

The victim, a first year female student, was found to be without vital signs and transported to a local hospital.   She was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Badge ceremony to be held at Cambridge City Hall

Waterloo Region, ON – The Waterloo Regional Police Service is proud to welcome the members of Recruit Class #85 to its ranks at a special ceremony to be held in partnership with the City of Cambridge.

Seven new officers have just completed their basic training at the Ontario Police College and will be sworn in and receive their police badges Friday August 8, 2014 in the Bowman Room / Atrium, 50 Dickson Street, Cambridge starting at noon.

Waterloo Region, ON – Waterloo Regional Police Homicide Detectives investigating the discovery of human remains in the Grand River near the downtown Galt section of Cambridge, have identified the deceased as Tasha Marie Smith.

Her remains were discovered by a person fishing around 8pm on July 18, 2014.  Emergency services responded and a recovery process and search of the area was conducted. Members of the Niagara Regional Police Service Dive Team provided assistance.

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Region Police Services Board Chair Tom Galloway is pleased to announce that a start date for Chief of Police designate Bryan Larkin has been determined.

Chief Designate Larkin will commence his duties with the Waterloo Regional Police Service on August 31, 2014.
