Regional Police involved in shooting incident

Waterloo Region, ON– On Thursday March 2, 2017 at approximately 12:30 a.m., Waterloo Regional Police Service were investigating a driving complaint and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Ottawa Street South and Lilac Street, in Kitchener.

Joseph Robert Paul Lalonde, 49, (known as Paul Lalonde) from Cambridge, was walking southbound across Cedar Street when he was struck by a full-sized, white Ford pickup truck.

Waterloo Region, Ontario – The Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Break, Enter and Auto Theft (BEAT) team are investigating several overnight residential break and enters that have occurred throughout the region while homeowners were asleep.

Waterloo Region, Ontario – In August 2016, Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Break, Enter and Auto Theft team (BEAT), together with the Insurance Bureau of Canada auto theft investigators and the Toronto Police Service’s Auto Squad, commenced an investigation into thefts of several vehicles throughout Central and Southern Ontario.

These included thefts of vehicles from dealerships. Investigators with the Insurance Bureau of Canada were able to identity several newly registered vehicles that matched the descriptions of these stolen vehicles.

Waterloo Region, Ontario – The Waterloo Regional Police Service is continuing to investigate a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in Cambridge on November 26, 2016. Joseph Robert Paul Lalonde, 49, (known as Paul Lalonde) from Cambridge, was walking southbound across Cedar Street when he was struck by a full-sized, white Ford pickup truck. He then came in contact with another vehicle traveling east along Cedar Street and in the left turn lane attempting to enter the Westgate Plaza, located at 130 Cedar Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police are joining other police services across Ontario in issuing a community alert concerning a search for Federal Inmate David Maracle.

While there is no information to indicate Maracle is in the Waterloo Region area, an alert is being issued as a public safety concern.

Maracle walked away from the Henry Trail Correctional Facility, located at 1453 Bath Road in Kingston, at 8 p.m. on January 22, 2017.

Waterloo Region, Ontario – London Police Service investigators have charged a seventeen year member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service in connection with an investigation into an off-duty matter. The allegations came to the attention of Waterloo Regional Police Service in late 2016. The member, a patrol officer assigned to North Division, has been charged with 6 counts of Assault, 1 count of Assault with a Weapon and 1 count of Sexual Assault. The alleged incidents occurred between May 2013 and March 2015.
