Waterloo Region, Ontario – On August 1st 2012 at approximately 11:30 am, a 74 year old St Jacobs resident using a mobility scooter was crossing King Street near the intersection of Cedar Street in downtown St Jacobs, in Woolwich Township, when she was struck by a southbound motor vehicle being operated by a 47 year old Kitchener woman. The pedestrian was not using the crosswalk at the time.
The pedestrian was knocked from her scooter and fell to the ground striking her head on the roadway. Emergency personnel attended and the pedestrian was taken to Grand River Hospital and then air lifted to Hamilton General Hospital with severe head injuries.
At 5:30 p.m. the female pedestrian succumbed to her injuries. Police have identified the deceased as Doris BAST.
Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in this collision.
