Waterloo Regional Police Gear Up to Celebrate Pride

Waterloo Region, Ontario – The Waterloo Regional Police Service will once again wave its Pride flag proudly this week in celebration of Pride Week, 2017

This is the second time the police service has flown its Pride flag in front of Police Headquarters at 200 Maple Grove Road in Cambridge. The flag will be raised by Bryan Larkin, Chief of Police, at 10:30 a.m. on May 25.

“We are very proud to support equity, diversity and inclusiveness within our police service and within our community,” said Chief Larkin. “Policing a diverse community such as Waterloo Region requires an equally diverse police service, which is something we are dedicated to through our daily recruitment efforts. We are honoured to stand together with our LGTBQ+ community this week to send out an important message – that by working together we make healthier and safer communities.”

Joining Chief Larkin at the flag-raising ceremony will be members of the Senior Leadership Team, the Inclusion and Equity Officer and members of the diversity committee. Members of the LGBTQ+ community, media and community members are also invited to attend.

Since 2005, the Waterloo Regional Police Service has had a dedicated team of members who sit on a Diversity Committee to bring awareness, education and inclusion to the forefront. This is just one example of the work being done by the Waterloo Regional Police Service to ensure a more diverse and inclusive organization.
