For Immediate Release: October 31, 2012
Waterloo Region, Ontario – A team of Waterloo Regional Police investigators has been recognized by an American government agency for its role in apprehending a federal fugitive from the United States.
Glen Allan Ward was arrested at an ATM in Kitchener in April 2012 by members of the Central Division Crime Management Team with the assistance of North Division members.
Ward had been wanted on a warrant obtained by the F.B.I. under the provisions of the Extradition Act after he fled to Canada from Los Angeles in 2000.
In October, an invitation was sent to the members of the Timelender Fraud Investigative Team to attend an awards ceremony in Washington D.C. Sergeant Brad Finucan travelled to the U.S. capital on behalf of the Waterloo Regional Police Service and was presented with the CIGIE Investigative Award of Excellence by Special Inspector General Christy L. Romero (a photo is attached).
“We are very proud of our members whose involvement led to a major turning point in this lengthy cross-border investigation. This is a fine example of how much can be accomplished by agencies working together for a common goal,” said Chief Matt Torigian. “Our community can feel safer knowing they are served by police members whose professionalism and dedication to community service has been recognized internationally.”
Glen Allan Ward has been returned to California to face charges of bankruptcy fraud, mail fraud and aggravated identify fraud.
