Badge ceremony to be held at Family and Children’s Services

For Immediate Release:  July 31, 2012

Waterloo Region, ON – The Waterloo Regional Police Service is proud to welcome the members of Recruit Class #83 to its ranks at a special ceremony to be held in partnership with Family and Children’s Services of Waterloo Region.

Seven new officers have just completed their basic training at the Ontario Police College and will be sworn in and receive their police badges Tuesday August 7, 2012 at the Family Centre, 65 Hanson Avenue, Kitchener, starting at 1pm.

“Our Service appreciates the opportunity to bring our ceremony to the new Family Centre located within Family and Children’s Services of Waterloo Region, our community partner in public safety,” said Chief Matt Torigian.  “One of our core values is recognizing that children and youth are the community’s most valuable resource.  Our newest police members look forward to establishing themselves as role models and mentors to our youth while working together with all citizens for a safe, strong Waterloo Region. “

The new officers bring a wealth of skills, knowledge and experiences to their new careers. Prior to joining the Service, the new members studied in a variety of fields including peace and conflict studies; physical geography; business and political studies; bachelor of arts studies; police foundations; psychology; fitness and health; and business sales and marketing.  In addition, they worked or volunteered in fields such as Canadian Forces; air cadets; armored car security; animal services; machine tool assembly; campus security; community work and fitness direction.

Our Service looks forward to the participation of representatives from Family and Children’s Services in our ceremony. Also joining senior administration will be members of the Police Services Board, the Ontario Court of Justice, as well as volunteers, family and friends.
