Police Board announces results of 2010 Election

For Immediate Release: January 6, 2010

Waterloo Region, Ontario:  At the first monthly meeting of 2010, members of the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board today elected the Chair and Vice-Chair for the coming year.

Tom Galloway was re-elected to the position of Chair, and Grace Sudden was returned to the position of Vice-Chair by the members of the Board.

Regional Councillor Galloway has been a member of the Police Services Board since 2001. He was elected to the position of Vice-Chair in 2002, and then to the role of Chair the following year.

“It is a great honour and privilege to serve the citizens of Waterloo region. I would like to express my appreciation to the members of the Board for their ongoing trust,” said Chair Galloway.

Grace Sudden, community-at-large appointee, has been a member of the Police Services Board for the past nine years and in 2010 will serve her eighth term as Vice Chair.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Chair Galloway and look forward to our continued association in the coming year. I would like to thank the members of the Board for their faith and confidence,” said Vice-Chair Sudden.

The other members of the Police Services Board include Regional Chair Ken Seiling, Wilmot Township Mayor Wayne Roth, and provincial appointees, Brian Heggie, Patti Haskell and Myrta Rivera.

The Police Services Board is a civilian oversight body that governs how police services are provided. Under the provisions of the Ontario Police Services Act, the Board is comprised of three elected members from Regional Council, three provincially appointed members and one community-at-large member appointed by Regional Council.

The Board meets regularly to determine the current and future direction of policing in Waterloo Region as it relates to law enforcement, crime prevention and the police budget. All Board meetings are open to the public.
