About the Branch
The 62 members of the Records Branch are responsible for maintaining police records. We provide the following services:
* Transcribing police reports
* Updating criminal records
* Verifying police information for officers and police services throughout Canada
* Record checks
* Responding to subpoenas, Coroner’s inquests, Court Orders and Summons
* Coding for Statistics Canada
* Confirming warrants and probation orders
* Freedom of Information requests
* Providing collision, occurrence and insurance summaries
* Alarm program and billing
* Manage off-site record centre
* Pardon applications and fingerprint destruction
The Records Branch serves many customers including:
* The general public
* Police officers and civilian police members
* Crown prosecutors
* Defence lawyers
* Social agencies
* Insurance companies
* Family and Children Services
* Other government institutions and police services

- Transcribed 73,473 occurrences
- Received over 12,700 messages from other police services
- Completed 23,407 criminal and police records checks
- Received 1261 warrants
- Administered 7,213 alarm calls
- Responded to 3,700 requests for police records
- Provided 11,375 motor vehicle collision reports
