Male Chorus

The Waterloo Regional Police Male Chorus was formed in November 1973, and over the years has earned a reputation for quality performances and top notch entertainment.

The 50 member chorus is a non-profit organization sponsored by the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board as a public relations vehicle for the Police Service. Its mandate is to serve the Region of Waterloo; performing at a wide variety of community events including fundraisers, benefit concerts and ceremonial functions.

Membership in the Chorus is open to men in the community who are citizens in good standing. The Chorus invites all men who are willing to dedicate themselves to achieving the standards for which the Chorus is known. Membership ranges from the newer members to some of the original members. Camaraderie is important to the group and new members are welcomed and mentored by the more experienced singers.

The Chorus is in demand beyond the borders of Waterloo Region. Since it’s inception, the Chorus has accepted invitations to sing at Expo ’86 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Buffalo, NY, Canton, OH, the Chautauqua Institution in NY and in Owensboro,  KY. During 2 tours of the British Isles in the 1990’s the Chorus performed for audiences at historic places such as Lincoln Cathedral, Southwell Minster and York Minster. In the last decade, the Chorus has taken a tour to the Maritime Provinces and one to the Province of Newfoundland.

The Chorus is in high demand and performs an average of 25 events per year raising thousands of dollars for various charities. These men also perform regularly on Parliament Hill in Ottawa for the annual National Police Memorial service and at the annual Ontario Police Memorial Dedication at Queens Park in Toronto in May of each year.

The Chorus has recorded 6 cassettes/CD’s over the years. A new Chorus CD recording is planned for release in 2013 to coincide with the Chorus’ 40th Anniversary. Chorus CD’s are available for sale at all Chorus Concerts.

The  Chorus is led by Music Director Kimberley Nikkel, and accompanied by Sheila Wallace.
