The Waterloo Regional Police Male Chorus was formed in November 1973, and over the years has earned a reputation for quality performance and good entertainment.
The 53-member chorus is a non-profit organization sponsored by the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board, as a public relations vehicle for the Police Service. Its mandate is to serve the Region of Waterloo performing at a wide variety of community events including, schools, hospitals, church conventions and charitable events as well a ceremonial functions.
Membership in the Chorus is open to men in the community who are citizens in good standing with a willingness to dedicate themselves to achieving the standards for which the Chorus is known.
The Chorus is directed by Kimberly Nikkel and accompanied by Sheila Wallace.
The Chorus is in demand beyond the borders of Waterloo Region. Since its inception, the Chorus has accepted invitations to sing in British Columbia, the British Isles, Buffalo, N.Y., Canton, Ohio, Chautauqua Institution, N.Y., the Maritime Provinces, Newfoundland and Owensburg, Kentucky, as well as at numerous venues throughout Ontario. During two tours of England, Scotland and Wales, the Chorus performed to capacity audiences at historic places such as Lincoln Cathedral, Southwell Minster, York Minster and Westminster Abby.
The Chorus regularly participates in the Police Memorial Service on Parliament Hill in Ottawa as well as the Ontario Police Memorial Service at Queen’s Park in Toronto. The members have performed for Police Services in Halton, Ottawa and York. The Chorus has hosted the Morriston Ladies Choir and Ogmore Valley Male Voice Choir from Wales, the Basingstoke Male Voice Choir, the Skelmanthorpe Male Voice Choir and the Bestwood Male Voice Choir from England as well as the Greater Canton, Ohio Men’s Chorus.
In November, 2006, the Chorus released its sixth recording, “We Sing Again.” |
