On March 8, 2019, The Waterloo Regional Police Services, Break and Enter Auto Theft (BEAT) Unit completed an investigation into several reports of the elderly being targeted after hiring someone for snow removal. In most instances, the accused would attend the victims residence and intimidate the elderly victims into allowing him to shovel their sidewalks and driveways. When he wasn't paid what he thought the job was worth, he returned at a later time and broke into their homes. In one case, the accused entered a victim’s residence after being told to wait outside. He became very aggressive and during the interaction stole a large sum of money from the victim. As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old Kitchener male was arrested and charged with several criminal offences including Robbery, Break Enter and Commit, Possession of an Identity Document, and Possession of Counterfeit Currency. The accused has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 20, 2019.
