Waterloo Regional Police Arrest Suspect in Suspicious Death Investigation

For Immediate Release:  December 27, 2017

Waterloo Region, Ontario –  On December 27, 2017, Waterloo Regional Police arrested a 17-year-old male in connection to the suspicious death of Elizabeth Alder, 57. The male was arrested on Farmers Market Lane, Waterloo earlier this afternoon.

The victim was found deceased in a residence in Elmira on December 25, 2017. 

The accused was arrested for 2nd degree murder and will be attending court tomorrow. Further particulars relating to his identity will not be provided by police.

Members of the Major Crime Branch and Forensic Identification Branch are continuing to investigate and an increased police presence is expected to continue in the area of Falcon Drive in Elmira.

The name and picture of the young person police were searching for in connection to this investigation were released to the public on December 26, 2017, pursuant to a judge’s order made under Section 110, subsection 4, of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The authority to publish the identity of a young person ceases after five days or with the apprehension of the young person. Since an arrest has been made in this investigation, all information that has been published related to the identity of the young person being sought must be removed immediately.
