Homicide Suspect Ager Hasan Returned to Canada 

For Immediate Release:  January 6, 2018

Waterloo Region, Ontario –  Homicide suspect Ager Hasan has been escorted back to Waterloo Region from Texas to face a charge of second degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Melinda Vasilije.

Two Waterloo Regional Police officers escorted Mr. Hasan back from a Texas prison on January 5, 2017. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kitchener on Monday January 8, 2018, courtroom 102.

Melinda Vasilije was found deceased in her Country Hill Drive residence in Kitchener on April 28, 2017. The cause of her death was determined to be multiple stab wounds.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued for Hamilton resident Ager Hasan after it was determined he had fled to the United States. Ager Hasan and Melinda Vasilije were known to each other.

On July 11, 2017, Mr. Hasan was arrested in San Antonio, Texas, by members of the United States Secret Service.

Waterloo Regional Police, along with our with our local Crown Attorney’s office and the Ministry of the Attorney General, have been working with our U.S. law enforcement partners and the U.S. Department of Justice to facilitate the return of  Mr. Hasan to Waterloo Region through the extradition process.

Mr. Hasan is currently charged with one count of second degree murder and three counts of breach recognizance.
