Waterloo Regional Police Involved in Shooting Incident

Waterloo Region, ON – On Saturday, March 31, 2018, at approximately 4 p.m., the Waterloo Regional Police Service was advised of an ongoing investigation by the Hamilton Police Service related to a break and enter where several weapons were stolen.

It was believed the suspect from that break and enter was headed to Waterloo Region. Officers with the Waterloo Regional Police Service were able to locate the suspect vehicle in the area of Dickie Settlement Road in Cambridge. A suspect was seen fleeing the area on foot.

An interaction occurred between the suspect and an officer, which resulted in the officer discharging their service firearm. The suspect, a 30-year-old male from Hamilton, was airlifted to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot by the police officer. The involved officer was not physically injured as a result of the interaction.

Highway 401, between Homer Watson Boulevard and Cedar Creek Road, was closed for several hours as a result of the incident.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified and invoked their mandate. As required by law, no further information can be provided by Waterloo Regional Police at this time.
