On August 9, 2019, at approximately 7 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police received a report of a robbery that occurred in the area of Upper Canada Drive in Kitchener. A male met two other males in a parking lot to sell a phone. The male was assaulted and had his phone taken. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 519-570-9777 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Waterloo Regional Police encourage every to be careful when meeting a buyer or seller. It's suggested that you: • Don’t provide your personal information to anyone. • Check the buyer/seller’s name through an online search engine; such as Facebook, Instagram or Google. • Ask about the history of the item being sold. • Meet during daylight hours, in a public space equipped with cameras. The parking lots of police divisions are always available to use as an option. • Do not transfer/provide money to the person before receiving the product. • Do not meet anyone alone or in someone’s private residence. • Use generic photos when posting an item for sale. • Follow your gut – if something feels wrong, it likely is.
