Waterloo Regional Police are reminding motorists to lock their vehicles and take valuables inside. Thefts from motor vehicles is a crime of opportunity that can sometimes lead to motorists becoming victims of identity fraud. Please consider the following tips to help prevent yourself from becoming a victim: · Lock your doors and make sure your windows are firmly closed. · Don't leave valuables in plain view (including cash, electronics, work tools, sensitive work data or material, jewellery or sunglasses) · Don't leave personal identity items in the vehicle, including passports, ownership, or insurance documents. Instead, keep a copy of your ownership and insurance in your wallet. If there is more than one person operating the motor vehicle, make an extra copy. · Speak to your neighbours and ask if they've seen anything suspicious. · Report the theft, or any suspicious activity to police immediately. If possible, try to obtain a description and direction of travel of the suspect and/or vehicle.
