Reports, Publications and Surveys

The Waterloo Regional Police Service provides the Police Services Board and the community with statistics, trends, updates and plans relating to our operations and priorities as a police service. In this section, you can learn more about how we support our community and the areas of focus for our organization.

Annual Reports

Police services are required to publish an annual report. You can request additional years by emailing publicinfo@wrps.on.ca

If you would like to view a report in an alternative format, contact publicinfo@wrps.on.ca.

 Operation and Strategic Business Plans

The Police Services Act requires that all Police Services Boards in Ontario prepare a business plan every three years.

Our Shared Vision, Our Core Values, Our Mission and the legislative requirements are foundational to the framework of the Waterloo Regional Police Service Operations Plan, which complements the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board's Strategic Priorities.

As part of the Operations Plan, the Waterloo Regional Police Service has instituted a reporting structure to provide bi-annual updates for the current plan.

Community Surveys
The Waterloo Regional Police Service conducts community surveys as part of its Strategic Business Planning process. In the Fall of 2020, WRPS held a series of 21 hour-long dialogue sessions focusing on particular populations that had less trust and confidence in police based on the disaggregated results of the Community Index of Wellbeing survey in 2018 and stakeholder consultation required by legislation. Community members were also invited to complete an online survey, which would help shape the 2021-2023 Strategic Business Plan.

Previous surveys were completed in 2017, 2014, 2011, 2007, 2003 and 2000. The survey asks residents of Waterloo Region about their perception of crime, fear of crime, contact with WRPS and opinions on policing priorities.

National Crime Statistics

Due to the length of investigations, follow-up, evidence processing, and the complexity of crime, police services are typically given until March 31st each year to submit their year-end UCR statistics. Statistics Canada then runs a variety of verification processes and their tables and reports for the previous year’s crime statistics begin to be published near the end of July.

The publication includes the volume and severity of police-reported crimes, clearance rates, and more, broken out by province/census metropolitan area/municipal police service. Visit www.statcan.gc.ca and search for incident-based crime statistics and crime severity indexes to learn more.
