As police officers, Kim Spitzig and Jarett Luke dedicate themselves every day to keeping people safe.
They also dedicate themselves to keeping animals safe.
Constable Spitzig and Constable Luke run Pound Dog Rescue, an organization that rescues, rehabilitates and finds loving homes for abandoned and surrendered dogs. They have been running the non-profit, volunteer-run organization since 2012.
“I have always been an animal lover and have always known I wanted to work with animals,” says Const. Spitzig, who is currently a Detective in the Forensics Identification Unit. “Once I became a police officer, I set my sights on being a Canine Officer, which I was able to do for five years, working beside the best canine partner ever, Bosco.”
To date, Pound Dog Rescue has found loving homes for approximately 475 dogs.
“If it wasn’t for this organization, these animals would be left abandoned and unloved,” says Const. Luke, a detective who currently works in the Special Victims Unit. “The fact we have had a part to play in finding them loving homes where they can thrive is an invaluable experience.”
