Chief Bryan Larkin Issues Community Message On St. Patrick's Day Gathering

media release

The number of COVID-19 cases continue to spread across Canada and Waterloo Region. Without taking action now, cases will increase exponentially in the days and weeks ahead. This has been the trend globally, and now we are experiencing it locally.

We all have a part to play in public safety. The time for us to come together and act is now.

As your Chief of Police, I am encouraging all residents of our Region to do their part to reduce the impact of this virus on our community.

Police have recently responded to a large number of residential St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in Waterloo, which is both concerning and disappointing. Large gatherings such as this undoubtedly risk the spread of this virus to those in attendance, their friends, and their family members. It also risks the health and safety of first responders who are protecting the community.

I’m making a public appeal to anyone considering attending any large gathering, including the unsanctioned St. Patrick’s Day event, to reconsider. Do not risk it. Stay home. Stay healthy. Stay safe.

We all share the responsibility to take action. Every day counts. Stay home and help control the spread of COVID-19.
