Community Message From Chief Larkin on Homecoming Weekend

A message from Our Chief: Bryan Larkin

Dear students, alumnus and citizens of Waterloo Region,

On behalf of the Waterloo Regional Police Service, we would like to take a moment to wish everyone a Happy Homecoming and Alumni weekend.

We also want to remind everyone that our community, our province and our nation continue to be in the midst of a global pandemic.

We continue to see people test positive for COVID-19 on a daily basis and have entered the next phase, where over the coming weeks we will see a continued escalation of active cases.

We continue to be concerned with increased positive tests, as well as outbreaks occurring.

We continue to work diligently to protect our members and community against all potential exposures.

The pandemic is not over.

This is why we are making a public appeal to anyone considering hosting and/or participating in large gatherings to please reconsider. Such gatherings provide the potential for the virus to spread to those in attendance, to their friends, family, and to the community. The risk is simply not worth it.

We are very proud of the efforts made in recent months by community members. You stayed home. You stayed away from your favorite places, favorite activities, and favorite people. Although it wasn’t easy, you remained strong and resilient. Now is not the time to give up.

We must continue doing our part and we must continue working together to reduce the impact of this virus on our community.

Please continue to be responsible, realizing that the decisions we make today will determine our future.

Please, stay home, stay healthy, and stay safe.

We are in this together and for the greater good of our community.

Thank you in advance for your commitment to public safety and good citizenship.
