Constable Nicole Morrison

Nicole Morrison

Constable Nicole Morrison remembers the phone call like it was yesterday.

“You’re hired,” the voice on the other end told her. “I was like, ‘Am I dreaming right now?’”

It was, in reality, a dream come true for Morrison, who had recently graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a degree in Communication Studies. As a basketball player on the women’s varsity team - where she became the all-time lead scorer and earned titles for the most points scored in a single season and game - she learned the importance of team work and volunteering.

“Involving myself in the Waterloo community during my years at University made me appreciate how much the community has to offer,” she said. “And it made me realize how much I wanted to give back to a place that gave me so much.”

During her time at Laurier, Constable Morrison joined the Special Constable program where she developed her interest in law enforcement.

“It allowed me to better understand the skills and abilities needed to serve the community,” she said. “I was able to work closely with Waterloo Regional Police officers and this made me realize the career path I wanted. They were very supportive and encouraging through the entire process, which only accelerated my drive to join WRPS.”

While she has already accomplished so much in her career, there is still one goal she strives for every single day.

To be a role model for young women.

“It’s so important for young women to have someone to look up to,” she said. “I would definitely encourage women to join policing because it is a very satisfying career. You get to help people. You get to help your community. You get to give back. It’s truly rewarding.”
