Deputy Chief Kevin Chalk Announces Retirement from the Waterloo Regional Police Service

media release

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Karen Redman, Chair of the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board, announced today that Deputy Chief Kevin Chalk will retire from the Waterloo Regional Police Service after 38 years of dedicated service.

“On behalf of all members of the Police Services Board, I want to thank you for your dedication and commitment to this community,” said Chair Redman. “Throughout your years of Service, you have proven to be a true leader with a passion for policing and an invaluable member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours.”

Deputy Chalk, who will officially retire February 29, 2020, began his policing career as beat officer in Waterloo in 1982. He served in several different positions, including Frontline Patrol, Drug Enforcement, Emergency Response, and Executive Officer before rising to the rank of Inspector in 1999.  In 2001 Deputy Chalk was promoted to Superintendent and over the next 12 years served in a variety of areas of command.  He was named Deputy Chief of Police in 2013.

“From a very early age all I ever wanted to do was policing” said Deputy Chalk. “I’ve had the honour of working with many incredible people over the years.  Serving the community and helping to make it safe was a privilege.  I will miss working alongside the members of the Service always striving to ensure they all go home safely and be the best they can be.”

“The timing of my retirement is best for me personally and the Service.  The Service is strong and there are emerging leaders ready to assume the reins.  If there is one thing I have observed over the years, time and time again is, no matter what the challenge or obstacle, excellence prevails and we get the job done.  The Region of Waterloo deserves and can claim as their own, the best police service in Ontario if not Canada.”

In 2002, Deputy Chalk received the Governor General’s Exemplary 20-year-Service Medal in recognition of his loyal and meritorious service to law enforcement in Canada.  He also very proudly became a member of the Order of Merit of Police Forces in October of 2019.
