Karen Quigley-Hobbs and Doug Craig Appointed to the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board

Waterloo Region, Ontario – The Waterloo Regional Police Services Board is pleased to welcome Karen Quigley-Hobbs and Doug Craig as its newest members.

Ms. Quigley-Hobbs has 40 years of experience working with Public Health and Regional Government. As a Public Health nurse and senior leader at the Region of Waterloo, Ms. Quigley-Hobbs has worked and partnered with many community groups and organizations to address needs at system, group and individual levels. She has worked as a case manager for individuals and families struggling with mental illness and has been instrumental in helping to implement a Consumption and Treatment Service in Kitchener.

She currently consults in public health organizational leadership and is an assistant Clinical Professor at McMaster School of Nursing.

“It is an honour and a privilege to serve on the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board and work with members of the police Service,” said Ms. Quigley-Hobbs. “I look forward to representing the community and its residents as we continue to modernize, innovate and improve the safety and wellness of residents in Waterloo Region.”

Mr. Craig has lived in Waterloo Region since 1974 and spent 32 years as a teacher for the Waterloo Board of Education before retiring. He also has extensive experience in local politics, serving as a Ward Councillor, a Hydro Commissioner and Regional Councillor. In 2000, he was named Mayor of Cambridge, holding the position for 18 years over five terms.

Currently, Mr. Craig is a Regional Councillor for the City of Cambridge.

“I am delighted to accept this new role and to have the opportunity to work with the Board and the Waterloo Regional Police Service,” said Mr. Craig. “I look forward to contributing and working with board members and members of the police Service to ensure the safety and wellness of this great community we call home.”

Both members were officially sworn in this week.

The Waterloo Regional Police Services Board is a civilian oversight body that governs the Waterloo Regional Police Service. Under the provisions of the Ontario Police Services Act, the Board is responsible for the provision of adequate and effective police services for the residents of the Region of Waterloo.
