Karen Redman and Karin Scharr Elected Chair and Vice-Chair of Police Services Board

Waterloo Region, Ontario – The Waterloo Regional Police Services Board is pleased to announce the re-election of Region of Waterloo Chair Karen Redman as Chair of the Police Services Board and Dr. Karin Schnarr as Vice-Chair. Ms. Redman and Dr. Schnarr were re-elected to their roles during the Police Services Board meeting on January 18, 2023.

Regional Chair Redman has served as the Police Services Board Chair since being elected to the role in January 2019. Ms. Redman has been dedicated to public service for more than 20 years, representing the community at several levels of government including federal, municipal and board of education. Ms. Redman is the current Regional Chair of Waterloo Region, having first been elected in 2018 and re-elected in October 2022.  

“It is an honour to continue to serve as Chair of the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board,” said Chair Redman. “I look forward to working with fellow board members to represent residents and work with the Service to build a safer and stronger Region”.

Ms. Redman is a lifelong resident of Waterloo Region. She currently resides in Kitchener and she and her husband Warren have four grown children.

Dr. Schnarr has served on the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board since her appointment by the Province of Ontario in July 2020 and has served as Vice-Chair of the Board since January 2022. Dr. Schnarr is an Associate Professor at the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University (Laurier) where she teaches strategic management at the undergraduate, masters and executive levels. Currently, Dr. Schnarr is the Chair of the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario and holds volunteer leadership roles in several national and international academic organizations.

“I am honoured to have been re-elected as Vice Chair by the members of the Police Services Board and to continue our ongoing governance work and engagement with WRPS and community members regarding policing in the Region,” stated Dr. Schnarr.

Dr. Schnarr grew up in Waterloo and resides in Kitchener with her partner Josif and their two daughters.

The Waterloo Regional Police Services Board is a civilian oversight body that governs the Waterloo Regional Police Service. Under the provisions of the Ontario Police Services Act, the Board is responsible for the provision of adequate and effective police services for the residents of the Region of Waterloo.
