Karin Schnarr Appointed to the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board

Portrait of Dr. SchnarrWaterloo Region, Ontario – The Waterloo Regional Police Services Board is pleased to welcome Dr. Karin Schnarr as its newest member. Dr. Schnarr has been appointed by the Province of Ontario for a three-year term, effective July 2, 2020.

Dr. Schnarr is an Associate Professor of Policy & Law at the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University (Laurier) where she also serves as the Director of the Undergraduate Business Program (BBA). She teaches strategic management at the undergraduate, masters and executive level. Dr. Schnarr received a PhD in Strategic Management (focused on corporate governance) and an MBA from the Ivey School of Business at Western University, a Master’s degree in English Literature from Queen’s University and Bachelor’s degrees in English Literature and Science from the University of Waterloo.

Dr. Schnarr’s research focuses on corporate governance, the intersection of strategy and technology, and case-based learning. Her research interests stems from working with boards and senior levels of executives during her fifteen years in government and private sector management consulting. She is a former National Council member of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and an inaugural Board member of the children’s charity, the Sandbox Project. Currently, Dr. Schnarr is an active volunteer and faculty mentor at Laurier and holds volunteer leadership roles in a number of national and international academic organizations.

Dr. Schnarr grew up in Waterloo and resides in Kitchener with her partner Josif and their two daughters.

I look forward to working with other members of the Board, the Waterloo Regional Police Service and our community as we engage in this ongoing dialogue.”

The Waterloo Regional Police Services Board is a civilian oversight body that governs the Waterloo Regional Police Service. Under the provisions of the Ontario Police Services Act, the Board is responsible for the provision of adequate and effective police services for the residents of the Region of Waterloo.
