Message from the Chief - Proof of Vaccination Requirement

Media Release

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Today, the Ontario Government will require individuals to be fully vaccinated and to provide proof of their vaccination status to access certain businesses and settings. This is being done in an effort to help protect the province’s hospital capacity, while also helping businesses keep their customers safe.

As this change takes effect, there will undoubtedly be confusion, uncertainty, and frustration.

On behalf of the Waterloo Regional Police Service,  we ask that you continue as you have done so throughout this entire pandemic – with patience, generosity, and kindness.

The primary role of WRPS regarding vaccine passports and proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be to maintain peace and overall safety of all citizens of Waterloo Region.  While we will not be conducting proactive compliance checks of vaccination passports, we will respond as needed and when required if there are incidents that include violence, threat of violence, or trespassing.

We must continue to work together as a community so we can return to “our normal.” We have come so far and, together, we can get through this. But, we must continue to support one another, help each other, and simply be kind so we can ensure the health and safety of our family, our friends, and all citizens of Waterloo Region.
