Waterloo Region, Ontario – Officers from Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Direct Action Response Team (DART) and South Division have arrested two individuals as a result of an investigation in Cambridge.
On May 31, 2023, at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers on proactive patrol in the area of Hespeler Road and Eagle Street North conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle with unauthorized plates.
Through investigation, police determined that the driver of the vehicle was currently wanted by Toronto Police Service, Peel Regional Police Service, London Police Service, and the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police for criminal offences including assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, fraud, and uttering threats.
As part of the investigation, police located and seized a conducted energy weapon and identity documents.
The driver, a 24-year-old Quebec male and the passenger, a 20-year-old Milton female, were jointly charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The female accused was also charged with possession of identity documents and possession of a counterfeit stamp.
The male accused was charged with several additional offences, including:
- Fail to comply with a release order (two counts)
- Possession of a weapon contrary to an order
- Obstruct police
- Use plate not authorized for motor vehicle
- Have care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available
Both accused parties were held in police custody for a bail hearing.
