Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police have laid impaired driving charges after a collision in Woolwich Township.
On July 5, 2024, just before 11 p.m., police received reports of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Sandy Hills Drive and Arthur Street North.
Through the investigation, police determined that a Ford Edge travelling north on Sandy Hills Drive struck the rear of a Hyundai Elantra, also travelling north, in front of the Ford. The Ford then swerved and hit a hydro pole on the east side of Arthur Street North.
Police and Region of Waterloo Paramedics responded to the scene. No physical injuries were reported.
At approximately 11:15 p.m., officers arrested the driver of the Ford for impaired driving.
As a result of the investigation, the driver of the Ford, a 54-year-old Arthur male, was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drug, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration, dangerous operation and owner operate motor vehicle on a highway – no insurance.
Arthur Street North between Seiling Road and Sandy Hills Drive was closed for several hours for the investigation and hydro pole repair and has since been reopened.
