Police Charge Hamilton Male with 27 Offences in Connection to Kitchener Assault

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police have seized firearms and drugs and arrested a Hamilton male in connection to an assault in Kitchener.

On April 1, 2024, at approximately 8 p.m., an assault occurred at a business in the area of Guelph Street and Sereda Road.

During the incident, two males forced their way into the business, assaulted the business owner with a firearm, and damaged and stole property. The males then fled the area.

The business owner sought treatment at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

As part of the ongoing investigation, on April 9, 2024, police arrested a male and subsequently completed a search warrant at a Hamilton residence. During the search, investigators located and seized two handguns, approximately 900 grams of suspected cocaine, a large quantity of Canadian currency, and stolen property.

The male, a 48-year-old from Hamilton, has been charged with 27 criminal offences, including:

• Assault with a Weapon
• Point Firearm
• Mischief under $5,000
• Carrying Concealed Weapon
• Unauthorized Possession of Firearm (three counts)
• Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (three counts)
• Careless Storage of Firearm (two counts)
• Firearm or weapon: possession contrary to prohibition order (six counts)
• Assault Cause Bodily Harm
• Forcible Entry
• Robbery with a Firearm
• Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine
• Possession of a Prohibited Device
• Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000 (two counts)
• Possession of Proceeds of Crime over $5,000
• Possession of Firearm with Altered Serial Number

One male remains outstanding in connection to this incident, and the investigation is ongoing by WRPS’ General Investigations Unit.

Investigators believe this was a targeted incident and there is no ongoing concern for public safety.
