Police Charge Male after Weapons Incident at Kitchener Mall

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a male after responding to a weapons incident at a shopping mall in Kitchener.

On February 22, 2025, at approximately 7:50 p.m., police responded to Fairview Park Mall for reports of a male brandishing a hatchet.

Officers determined that a male had entered a store, acting erratically and carrying a hatchet.

Officers located and arrested the male outside of the mall.

As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old Cambridge male was charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with a release order
  • Obstruct a police officer

The male was also arrested on two outstanding warrants.

No physical injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
