Police Investigating Two Attempted Break-ins at Places of Worship in Cambridge and Kitchener

UPDATED MEDIA RELEASE:

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police have identified a male involved in three break-and-enters at places of worship in Waterloo Region.

On March 26, 2025, between the hours of 4 a.m. and 5:40 a.m., three break-ins occurred at places of worship in the areas of Bridge Street East and McIntyre Drive in Kitchener and Old Mill Road in Cambridge.

On March 28, 2025, the involved suspect was arrested by York Regional Police on unrelated charges and remains in custody.

As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old male from Peel Region will be charged with the following offences:

  • Break and enter (three counts)
  • Disguise with intent
  • Failure to comply with a release order

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police are investigating two attempted break-and-enters at places of worship in Waterloo Region.

On March 26, 2025, at approximately 4:30 a.m., an attempted break-in occurred at a place of worship in the area of McIntyre Drive and Strasburg Road in Kitchener.

Around 5:30 a.m., another attempted break-in occurred at a place of worship near Old Mill Road and Meadow Creek Lane in Cambridge.

No entry into the buildings was made in either incident.

Investigators believe the incidents were targeted.

Residents and businesses in both areas are asked to check their security cameras for suspicious persons, vehicles, or activity between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. on March 26, 2025.

Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Break, Enter, and Vehicle Theft Team is encouraging homeowners, businesses, and organizations to consider the following break-and-enter prevention tips:

  • Install video surveillance cameras at the front and back of buildings
  • Notify police immediately when notified of an alarm
  • Report any suspicious persons or activity to police
