Waterloo Region, Ontario – Police are continuing to investigate after fireworks were shot towards people at Kitchener's Victoria Park.
On May 22, 2023, police responded to upwards of 18 calls for service at the park, located on Schneider Avenue, between 7 p.m. and midnight.
Several investigations regarding reports of dangerous conditions, weapons, and assaults remain ongoing. Investigators are asking anyone with video footage relating to these incidents to provide it to police via the evidence submission portal link at https://bit.ly/3qcNNh3.

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Police have laid charges after responding to multiple calls for service in Kitchener’s Victoria Park.
During the evening of May 22, 2023, officers were dispatched to Victoria Park for incidents including disturbances, weapons, fighting, fires, and fireworks being shot toward parkgoers and members of law enforcement.
Over the course of two hours, police, bylaw, and security worked to restore safety and to disperse the crowd of approximately 500 people that had gathered in anticipation of Victoria Day fireworks.
One police officer and a member of Kitchener Bylaw both sustained minor lower-body injuries after being struck by fireworks.
A 29-year-old Kitchener male was arrested after police responded to a report of an assault. The male has been charged with assault and failing to comply with a release order. He was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
An 18-year-old Kitchener male was arrested in connection to fireworks being shot into crowds of people. The male was charged with assault with a weapon and causing a disturbance. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 29, 2023.
