Waterloo Region, Ontario – The Waterloo Regional Police Service is proud to partner with Canadian Blood Services and local emergency service workers for this year’s Sirens for Life campaign.
The Sirens for Life campaign encourages local emergency service workers and residents to come together and donate blood in support of their local emergency service team.
Emergency service workers often see the urgent need for blood first-hand. In fact, just one person who is seriously injured in a vehicle collision could need as many as 50 blood donations to help save their life.
“The Emergency Services summer blood donation campaign once again kicks off with a donor centre happening at Waterloo Regional Police Services Headquarters,” says Tara Gutscher, Territory Manager for Canadian Blood Services. “It is amazing that year after year, these organizations take the time to make blood donations a priority in the summer – a time of high need. We thank the local police, fire, and paramedic teams for donating blood and saving lives this summer. We encourage KW residents to come in and donate blood from now until September 2nd in honour of their favourite emergency service.
The goal for this year’s Sirens for Life campaign in Waterloo Region is to collect 150 units of blood. As well, organizers hope to recruit 30 new donors.
“We are excited to once again partner with Canadian Blood Services and save lives,” said Bryan Larkin, Chief of Police. “WRPS has accepted the Sirens for Life Challenge and we hope to see a lot of community members make a commitment to give blood as well. Together, we can help ensure an adequate supply of blood donations is available in our clinics.”
The event will take place Friday, June 28, 2018 at 9 a.m., at Police Headquarters, located at 200 Maple Grove Road in Cambridge. Emergency Service Leaders of Waterloo Region will be on hand to donate blood and speak to media.
Canadian Blood Services manages the national supply of blood, blood products and stem cells, and related services for all the provinces and territories (excluding Quebec).
