The Traffic Service’s Unit Returns Home from the ‘Bikes on the Bricks’ Competition with 10 Awards

Media Release

Waterloo Region, Ontario –  The Waterloo Regional Police Service is excited to announce that members of its Traffic unit received ten awards during a motorcycle competition in Flint, Michigan in September.

The competition, entitled Bikes on the Bricks, took place on September 7, 2019 and September 8, 2019, and featured approximately 50 competitors from across North America.

Waterloo Regional Police Service officers Acting Sergeant Green, Acting Sergeant Harding, and Constable Hofstetter participated in various events and brought home several awards, including Novice Grand Champion and the Prince of the Bricks award. An award that is handed out to the best overall skilled rider in the novice category.

This is the third competition that officers within the Traffic Service unit have participated in this year. In April, 2019 five members of the Traffic Services Unit participated in Palmetto Police Motorcycle Training Seminar in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where Acting Sergeant Harding brought home a fifth place award for the Expert Riding category. In August, 2019 members competed in the Great Lakes Police Motorcycle Training Seminar in Sudbury where they won seven awards, including a third place finish in the Expert Class Challenge Ride and Skills Course.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service runs a Police Motorcycle Training Program, which allows officers to develop skills specifically geared towards facing the unique demands of riding a police motorcycle. This program certifies officers from other police agencies across Ontario.

“The results from these three competitions is a great reflection of our officers skill level and the program that we run at the Waterloo Regional Police Service”, says Staff Sergeant Hinsperger, Traffic Service’s Unit Supervisor.
