Waterloo Region, Ontario - On April 23, 2021, at approximately 11:30 p.m., members of Waterloo Regional Police Service's Central Division Patrol observed a vehicle travelling east on Weber Street near Ottawa Street in Kitchener.
The vehicle was observed braking heavily and crossing the center line on several occasions. A traffic stop was conducted to check on the driver’s sobriety.
Upon further investigation, police identified the driver as a G1 licence holder and located three additional occupants from separate addresses in the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, Kitchener By-law issued a Provincial Offence Notice to one of the occupants for Fail to Comply with a Continued Section 7.0.2 Order. Waterloo Regional Police issued the driver a Provincial Offence Notice for Class G1 Licence Holder - Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver.
In efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, Waterloo Regional Police requested the occupants to exit the vehicle and offered additional transportation home, which was declined.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service continues to work in partnership with Public Health, Regional and Municipal Bylaw officers to engage, explain, educate, and enforce the stay-at-home order to maintain a safe and healthy community.
It is vital that we all take this pandemic seriously and do what is needed to stop the spread. The public is encouraged to limit contacts, avoid social gatherings, stay home except for essential purposes, maintain physical distance and wear a face covering. These measures are in place to protect yourself and others.
