Waterloo Region, Ontario The Waterloo Regional Police Service is seeking volunteers from the community to be part of the 2024 Special Olympics Spring Games.

In 2020, Waterloo Regional Police and Special Olympics Ontario agreed to postpone the event due to safety concerns from COVID-19. This year, Waterloo Regional Police are partnering again to show our support for the athletes participating in the 2024 games.

The Games, which will be hosted in Waterloo Region May 23, 2024 to May 26, 2024, will see more than 2,500 athletes, coaches, staff, and volunteers, and spectators visit Waterloo Region. The Games will feature five sports: basketball, swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, powerlifting and 10-pin bowling.

Police services throughout Ontario have been hosting Special Olympics Ontario Provincial Games since 1996. This is the first time the Waterloo Regional Police Service will host.

To ensure the Games “Go Beyond” and provide an amazing experience for all involved, the Waterloo Regional Police Service is recruiting about 500 volunteers. A few of the areas that require assistance include:

  • Score keeping and timekeeping
  • Referees and lines-people
  • Venue set-up and tear-down
  • Opening and closing ceremonies
  • Hospitality

You must be a minimum of 16 years of age to volunteer. Children aged 10 to 15 may volunteer with a parent/guardian in the Family Volunteer Program. To find out more about the volunteer process or about the games, visit Special Olympics Ontario.
