Waterloo Region Crime Stoppers and Waterloo Regional Police Partner with Mac’s Convenience for Operation Freeze

Waterloo Region, Ontario – With the warm weather upon us, the Waterloo Regional Police Service is proud to partner with Crime Stoppers and Mac’s Convenience stores to encourage good behaviour by youth in a program entitled “Operation Freeze.”

Operation Freeze, introduced in 2001 by Mac’s Convenience stores, has been used by police services for several years. Through this partnership, Waterloo Regional Police members present youth with coupons when good behaviour and positive deeds are displayed. These coupons can then be taken to any Mac’s Convenience store to be redeemed for a free Froster drink.

“Mac’s strives to be a leader in crime prevention,” said Sean Sportun, Manager, Loss Prevention and Security for Mac’s in Central Canada. “We are excited about Operation Freeze and the positive message it delivers.”

This positive interaction is an opportunity to reinforce constructive behaviours exhibited by youth and builds positive relationships between youth and the police. Officers will issue the coupons to recognize young people who make smart, safe and caring choices such as wearing helmets, helping others and picking up garbage.

“One of our Police Service core values is youth,” said Bryan Larkin, Chief of Police. “It is important to support our youth – our future – and show them how grateful we are for their good civic behaviour, as well as their positive contributions towards making Waterloo Region a better place. This is a great way for police to interact with youth and reward them for making positive, helpful decisions.”

The program will run throughout the summer.
