Waterloo Regional Police Arrest Male in Connection to Attempt Murder and Arson

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police have charged Paul BAGLEY, 33, with two counts of attempt murder, arson – disregard for human life, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and robbery.

On August 30, 2020, at approximately 6 a.m., police responded to a residence on First Street, in Elmira for reports of a fire. Upon arrival, police located two individuals with stab wounds. Both individuals were transported to hospital.

The male victim remains in hospital; the female victim was treated and has since been released.

The suspect had fled the residence prior to police arrival and was believed to be travelling in a 2014 Audi Q5 sport utility vehicle, which was involved in a collision with a pick-up truck shortly after. The female driver of the truck received minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital. The driver of the Audi fled the scene.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., the suspect turned himself into the O.P.P. Wiarton Detachment.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

There will be an increased police presence in the area of First Street throughout the day as the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information, or who may have witnessed this vehicle throughout the day is asked to call police at 519-570-9777 ext. 8191 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
