Media Release - officer with cruiser

Waterloo Region, Ontario – On March 11, 2021, at approximately 2 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police responded to a report of an abduction involving a 16-year-old youth.

The incident was reported in the area of Bridge Street West and University Avenue East in Waterloo. The victim alleged that several suspects forced them into a motor vehicle in the area while brandishing a knife and a firearm.

As a result of the initial report, police conducted a high-risk traffic stop involving the suspect vehicle. Four individuals were placed under arrest.

The investigation revealed that the alleged victim fabricated the abduction and knew the other parties involved.

Due to the high-risk nature of the incident and the risk the youth put the four individuals and the general public in, the youth was charged with one count of Public Mischief for making an alleged false report.

The youth is scheduled to appear in court in April 2021.
