Waterloo Regional Police Continue to Investigate Kitchener Homicide

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police continue to investigate a fatal shooting that occurred in Kitchener on November 26, 2019.

At approximately 2:20 a.m., members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service, along with members of the Ontario Provincial Police Service, responded to the area of Courtland Avenue and Highway 7/8 after receiving reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, police located a deceased male.

The victim has been identified as Irshad Sabriye, 20, from Kitchener.

Shortly after, at approximately 4 a.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Connaught Street in Kitchener. Upon arrival, police located a black, four-door, 2019 Nissan Sentra fully engulfed in flames. Investigators believe the homicide and vehicle fire are related.

There will be an increased police presence as officers and members of our Auxiliary unit continue to canvas the area. The Command Post will be on Vanier Drive in Kitchener this afternoon while the investigation continues.

The eastbound on-and-off ramps at Courtland Avenue will remain closed for most of the day.
