Waterloo Regional Police Continues to Investigate Kitchener Homicide

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police continue to investigate a fatal shooting that occurred in Kitchener on November 26, 2019.

There will be an increased police presence in the area of Connaught Street in Kitchener today as members of the Public Safety unit conduct a ground search.

On November 26, 2019, at approximately 2:20 a.m., members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service, along with members of the Ontario Provincial Police Service, responded to the area of Courtland Avenue and Highway 7/8 after receiving reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, police located a deceased male. The post-mortem examination determined that victim, Irshad Sabriye, 20, from Kitchener died from gunshot wounds.

At approximately 4 a.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Connaught Street in Kitchener. Upon arrival, police located a black, four-door, 2019 Nissan Sentra fully engulfed in flames. Investigators believe the homicide and vehicle fire are related.

Investigators believe in this incident that the victim and suspect(s) were known to one another and that it may be targeted. However, police would like to remind the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or individual(s) to police.
