Waterloo Region, Ontario - Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a 23-year-old male for impaired driving.

On Saturday, November 6, 2021, at approximately 12:30 a.m., members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Direct Action Response Team (DART) were conducting proactive enforcement in the Uptown Waterloo district when they attempted to conduct a traffic stop for a suspected impaired driver.

As police attempted the traffic stop, the vehicle fled the area at a high rate of speed. The driver was later seen fleeing the scene of a single motor vehicle collision around Lincoln Road in Waterloo.

The investigation revealed that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to strike a stop sign and tree, which resulted in the vehicle going airborne and coming to a rest in a plaza parking lot.

The male driver was later located by police and arrested.

As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old Kitchener male has been charged with several offences, including Operation While Impaired, Dangerous Driving, Stunt Driving, Flight from Police, Fail to Stop, Fail to Remain and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on November 19, 2021.
