Waterloo Regional Police Implement Changes to Police Records Checks and PRC Hours

media release

Waterloo Region, Ontario – The Waterloo Regional Police Service will be increasing its fee for volunteer police record checks in an effort to continue its high-level of service to the public and reduce wait times.  There will be no change to the employment police record check fee, which was revised in September 2017.

More than 42,000 record checks are issued annually and requests have been steadily increasing each year, which has resulted is some delays during peak periods of demand, especially during the months of September and October. To ensure members of the public receive their police record check in a timely fashion, while avoiding line-ups and high wait times, an increase to the fee for all volunteer police record checks will be phased in over the next two years as follows:  increase from $10.00 to $15.00, effective January 1, 2020, and increase from $15.00 to $20.00, effective January 1, 2021.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service offers a variety of convenient service options for police record checks, such as online service delivery, priority service for online applicants that require fingerprinting, and convenient locations for pick-up.  Applicants also pay one fee and are not charged extra for other services like fingerprinting.

As well, to bring hours of operation in line with customer demand, the Police Reporting Centre, located at 150 Maple Grove Road in Cambridge, will be implementing new hours of operation, effective January 1, 2020.

They will be open:

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Closed on Statutory Holidays (open 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Easter Monday and the
Civic Holiday.  Open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Remembrance Day if it falls during a weekday)

Volunteer and employment applicants can continue to use our online application process, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week hroughout the year.  We encourage applicants to visit the following link to begin the police record check process:
