Waterloo Regional Police Join Community Partners to Take Part in Smile Cookie Kick-Off

Waterloo Region, Ontario –  Today kicks off the Smile Cookie Campaign, a week-long campaign that supports over 500 local charities and organizations across Canada.

On September 18, 2019, at 1:30 p.m., Bryan Larkin, Chief of Police, along with other members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service, will join students from St. John Catholic Elementary School and officials from Nutrition for Learning in a cookie decorating event.

“I look forward to this event every year,” says Bryan Larkin, Chief of Police. “This is such a great campaign that has supported organizations in our Region for years. I encourage every member of our community to go out, purchase a cookie and help those who need it the most. Behind every smile cookie purchased is a real smile of someone in our community who is in need.”

Among local organizations chosen to receive donations is Nutrition for Learning, which operates 141 student nutrition programs throughout school boards within Waterloo Region. The student nutrition programs provide healthy meals and snacks to more than 23,000 students daily.

"There are several things that amaze me about all of the amazing support by local Tim Hortons owners." says Brian Banks, Interim Executive Director of Nutrition for Learning. "One is their generosity, and the other is their continued faith in our work to feed students at school." says Banks, "We are so very grateful for their support through the Smile Cookie campaign." Banks continues, “Our programs help with the physical, cognitive, behavioural and academic needs of these children and we are very grateful to be part of this great campaign.”

The Smile Cookie Campaign runs from September 16, 2019, to September 22, 2019. Cookies can be purchased for $1 with the full amount being donated to over 500 local charities and organizations across Canada.
