Waterloo Regional Police Lay Charges after Newborn Left Outside of Residence

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Youth Protection Unit have charged a female after a newborn was left outside of a residence in Kitchener. 

On December 27, 2021, at approximately 11:10 a.m., police responded to multiple calls that a female had abandoned a newborn in a stroller at the side of the road by a residence in the area of Dixon Street and Eckert Street. The female then attempted to flee the area. 

Through the investigation, police also learned that a passerby, who attempted to stop the female, was threatened. Several other individuals assisted police in locating the female. 

The newborn was located safe and assessed by Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services. 

As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old Kitchener female was arrested and charged with Abandon Child, Utter Threats to Cause Death and Breach Probation. 

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on February 7, 2022.
